A 17 year old male is in critical condition at Medical Center Barbour Wednesday after an alleged break-in attempt of a car on Macon Avenue. The homeowner who allegedly shot the juvenile has been arrested and charged with assault first degree, a felony offense.
At 12:03 p.m. Wednesday, 58-year-old Malcolm Duel Wilson called 911 to report a suspicious person inside a vehicle under his carport on Macon Avenue. As officers were dispatched, the homeowner was able to give a description of the subject and describe his actions to the communications he bofficer.
During the 911 call, Wilson confronted the subject just prior to the responding officer’s arrival and attempted to confine him to the corner of the yard. As a police car approached the residence, the juvenile attempted to flee, and Wilson allegedly fired a weapon at him, striking him once in the lower back. The subject continued running away from the residence and was later located at the Medical Center Barbour emergency room.
The 17-year-old gunshot victim underwent emergency surgery Wednesday and is listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit at MCB. His name will not be released, said Eufaula Police Chief Steve Watkins.
Wilson was arrested on a warrant and released on bond pending a preliminary hearing.
